Lexington Park resident Thomas Donnell Evans, 42, was arrested on drug and weapon charges this week by members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, but he didn't go down without a fight.
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office’s Vice/Narcotics Division executed a series of search warrants at First Road in Lexington Park targeting Evans.
As deputies attempted to stop Evans to execute the warrant, he fled into a nearby wooded area, prompting Cpl. Brandon Foor to release his K9 partner Dyno to help apprehend him.
According to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, as Dyno approached Evans to take him down by biting his right arm, Evans turn and struck the dog with a closed fist, continuing to flee on foot.
Dyno didn't go down that easily either.
The K9 returned to try to apprehend Evans and as he was closing the gap, Evans gave himself up and he was taken into custody without further indecent, the sheriff said.
Neither Dyno nor Evans were injured in the chase.
During the search, deputies seized:
- Three weapons;
- Cash;
- Drug packing materials;
- MDMA;
- Oxycodone;
- Fentanyl.
Investigators noted that Evans is prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition due to previous convictions. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown and charged with:
- Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS): Possession with intent to distribute;
- Four counts of CDS: Possession of not marijuana;
- Four counts of CDS: Possession with intent to distribute narcotics;
- CDS: Possession (of a ) large amount;
- Two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm;
- Firearm/drug traffic crime and other firearm charges;
- Harming a law enforcement animal.
Evans is being held on a no-bond status. No return court date has been announced by the sheriff’s office.
